Semaglutide & Tirzepatide Weight Loss

Once Weekly injectable

What is Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are FDA-approved weight loss injection medications sold under the brand name Ozempic/Wegovy (Semaglutide) and Mounjaro (Tirzepatide).  Semaglutide works with your GLP-1, which is a hormone that plays a role in your appetite and digestion. Hormones are sent out by your body after you’ve eaten a meal to help lower your blood sugar by triggering insulin and blocking other sources of sugar.

Tirzepatide–in addition to being a GLP-1 medication –is also a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). GIP is a hormone in the body that supports blood glucose levels and helps our fat cells store more excess energy we might consume in our diets. So, Tirzepatide has a dual function that mimics two hormones in the body that support blood glucose levels and weight loss. Clinical studies have concluded that Tirzepatide has demonstrated more effectiveness in weight loss and blood glucose control over Semaglutide. However, these drugs differ in their side effect profiles and cost. Side effects for both drugs tend to be manageable and mild if dosed appropriately.

Both of these drugs have proven advantages and have revolutionized weight loss management! Please discuss with your MOXIE provider about which option is best for you!

Every patient's dose will be customized to their needs.

What does it do?

The weekly Semaglutide/Tirzepatide injection delays gastric emptying which causes appetite suppression, which will lead to eating smaller portion sizes and less cravings. This medication also results in improved blood sugar and a longer feeling of fullness through mechanisms discussed above. It stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin, removing sugar from the bloodstream.  Patients on Semaglutide & Tirzepatide have reported reduced appetite and reduced cravings, both of which contribute to weight loss. Both medications can only be prescribed by a medical provider.

How are Semaglutide & Tirzepatide Administered?

You will give yourself the injection once a week, on the same day each week. All supplies and instruction will be provided to you. Semaglutide/Tirzepatide is injected just under the skin (subcutaneously) in your abdomen or thigh. Since gastric emptying is delayed, side effects like nausea can be common at first. The goal is to have limited side effects and to enjoy the benefits of the medication, including decreased appetite, cravings, portion sizes. In order to reduce side effects, slowly adjusting your dose every month to achieve your goal is required. Prescription for anti-nausea medication is also provided.

Benefits?

Losing weight can help reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes. It reduces Ha1c and can potentially improve cholesterol levels. Semaglutide/Tirzepatide is safe to use for longer durations, unlike many other weight loss medications.
