Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a procedure that uses a patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth and improve under eye appearance.
Benefit from treatments performed by licensed and experienced professionals.
The only component used in PRP is plasma from your own blood.
With additional sessions, you can achieve your ideal outcome that lasts for months.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair treatment is a procedure that uses a patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth. First, a small blood sample is drawn from the patient. Then, the blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other blood components.
The practitioner injects the concentrated platelets into the scalp at the site of hair loss, and then performs a microneedling treatment to further stimulate hair growth. Results are often best when the dual modality of injecting directly into the scalp is paired with PRP microneedling.
PRP hair restoration has been proven effective for people experiencing:
• Early male- or female-pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia)
• Thinning hair on the scalp or along the hairline, especially near the temples
• Metabolically induced hair thinning or loss
• Fine or thinning hairs in the eyebrows or beard
PRP treatments can also be used preventatively to maintain your hair’s thickness over time. Results often last 6-12 months (this varies from person to person). It takes about three months to see optimal results and determine whether you’ll need additional sessions to achieve your ideal outcome. Studies have shown that PRP can significantly increase hair count and hair density within these first three months. Once you’re happy with your growth, you can maintain it with treatments once or twice a year, or more as needed.
There is also little to no downtime involved, as the treatment only involves a quick blood draw and a few injections into the scalp. It’s normal to experience some temporary soreness and redness near your injection sites, but this typically resolves in less than a day. You can resume desk work, workouts, washing your hair, and all other daily activities right away.
PRP is an excellent, minimally invasive alternative to more involved hair restoration solutions, such as follicular unit transplantation or follicular unit extraction grafting. In addition to PRP’s much shorter downtime compared to these other procedures, PRP stimulates your own natural hair growth rather than patching in areas with grafts from elsewhere on the head. While this treatment isn’t right for everyone, it can provide noticeable results for the right candidates.
Similar to PRP treatment for hair regrowth, your own blood stimulates the body’s healing process, which involves drawing blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and injecting the plasma into the under eye area. This reduces the appearance of dark circles, improves skin texture and elasticity, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and may reduce puffiness.
We usually recommend a series of treatments for optimal results, often 2-4 sessions spaced 5-6 weeks apart. Some patients see improvement after just one treatment, but multiple sessions are typically needed for significant results.
Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the under eye procedure. Swelling and redness typically subside within a few days. Avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours is generally recommended. Results can last from six months to a year, but individual results may vary. Maintenance treatments may be needed to sustain results over time.
Ideal candidates include individuals in good health with realistic expectations regarding the treatment outcomes. A consultation with a qualified professional is important to determine if you are a good candidate.

1. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm.
2. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the plasma.
3. The platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp or under-eye area.
4. PRP uses the body’s own healing properties, which reduces the risk of allergic reactions and contamination.
