| When it comes to women’s intimate wellness, few treatments have sparked as much curiosity and confusion as the O-Shot®. Some women swear by it. Others have heard promises that seem too good to be true. The reality, as with most regenerative therapies, lives somewhere in the nuanced middle.
Moxie is here to break through the noise and provide science-backed info you can rely on. We’ll let you know what the science says, what providers are seeing in practice, and what every woman considering this treatment should know before scheduling an appointment. What Is the O-Shot®?The O-Shot® is a regenerative procedure that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from a patient’s own blood to stimulate tissue health in the vaginal and clitoral regions. The process involves a standard blood draw, followed by centrifugation to concentrate the platelets, and then precise injection into targeted tissue areas. Because the treatment uses the patient’s own biology, there is no synthetic filler or foreign substance involved. Despite what many people assume, the O-Shot® is not primarily a sexual enhancement procedure. While improved orgasmic response is one documented benefit, many women seek this treatment for a much broader range of concerns, including vaginal dryness, urinary leakage, postpartum tissue changes, reduced sensation, discomfort during intercourse, tissue thinning, and menopause-related symptoms. We like to frame the O-Shot® as a regenerative women’s wellness treatment rather than a strictly cosmetic or pleasure-focused one. How Does the O-Shot® Work?PRP therapy works by concentrating growth factors found naturally in the blood and delivering them directly to tissue that may benefit from regenerative signaling. When injected, these growth factors encourage new cell activity, improve local blood flow, and support tissue remodeling over time. A 2025 systematic review published in Medicina examined PRP-based treatments for female sexual dysfunction and found evidence suggesting improvements in sexual function, lubrication, and satisfaction in some patient populations. It also noted that study quality and patient variability remain important considerations in interpreting outcomes. This reflects where the broader research landscape currently stands: promising, but still evolving. The procedure itself is generally well-tolerated. We first apply a topical anesthetic followed by a local numbing injection before treatment. Most women describe the experience as mild pressure or brief discomfort, and many find the blood draw to be the most uncomfortable part of the visit. One important expectation we always set early with clients is that results are not immediate. Because PRP works through tissue signaling and gradual regeneration, changes tend to develop over weeks and may continue improving over several months. Some patients notice increased sensitivity sooner, but meaningful tissue remodeling takes time. O-Shot® Side Effects and Safety ConsiderationsBecause the O-Shot® uses the patient’s own PRP, the risk of allergic reaction or rejection is minimal. Reported side effects are generally mild and may include temporary soreness, swelling, or sensitivity at the injection site. Serious adverse events are rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified, experienced provider with proper anatomical training. At Moxie Medispa, all O-Shot® procedures are performed by owner Alex Foley, an accredited Advanced Practice Provider, Women’s Health Practitioner, Certified Nurse-Midwife, and Aesthetic Injector. That being said, patient selection matters. Women with certain medical conditions, active infections, platelet disorders, or specific medications may not be appropriate candidates. With every new patient, we hold a thorough consultation process to make sure the O-Shot® will work for you before moving forward with treatment. What the O-Shot® Cannot DoThis is where honest, informed conversations become especially important. The O-Shot® has limitations, and transparency about those limitations is a marker of quality care. Female sexual health and pelvic wellness are complex. Concerns like decreased libido, difficulty with orgasm, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, or urinary leakage are rarely caused by a single issue. Hormones, nerve function, pelvic floor integrity, emotional wellbeing, relationship dynamics, stress, medications, menopause status, and childbirth history can all contribute. The O-Shot® addresses the tissue environment, but it cannot resolve severe hormone deficiency, pelvic pain disorders, psychological contributors, or major vascular or neurological conditions on its own. O-Shot® response also varies considerably from person to person. The quality of a patient’s PRP is tied to their underlying biology, meaning factors like nutritional status, circulation, hormonal depletion, smoking history, and overall health influence how the body responds. Some women notice meaningful improvement. Others experience more subtle changes. Results cannot be 100% guaranteed, and ethical providers will say so clearly. We would also like to note that results are not permanent for most patients. Many women return for maintenance treatments somewhere between every several months to annually depending on their goals and individual response. Pairing the O-Shot® With Hormone Therapy for Enhanced ResultsFor women navigating perimenopause or postmenopause, combining the O-Shot® with hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may offer more comprehensive support than either approach alone. Healthy hormone levels can improve tissue hydration, elasticity, and blood flow, which may create a more responsive foundation for regenerative treatment. Together, the two approaches can target both the local tissue environment and the broader hormonal conditions that influence vaginal and sexual health. At Moxie, we often find that this is the most powerful combination. Is the O-Shot® Right for You? Give Moxie Medispa a Call. The O-Shot® is a thoughtfully designed regenerative option for women dealing with a range of intimate wellness concerns. For the right candidates, it can be a meaningful part of a broader wellness plan. But it works best when expectations are grounded in realistic outcomes, when a provider takes time to understand the full picture of a patient’s health, and when it is considered as one tool among several rather than a single solution. Is the O-Shot® appropriate for your goals? Schedule a consultation to start the conversation. |
